Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from an ACAOM-accredited or candidate institution, or its equivalent.
Applicants must demonstrate a cumulative grade point average of no less than 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in their previous Oriental medicine academic experience.
International students must have course work that has been verified by an education evaluation service for equivalency to AAHW’s Master’s degree program.
Individuals who are experienced TCM practitioners (at least five years’ full-time practice) and/or have a license to practice in the U.S., but who have not completed a Master’s degree program, may submit an application for consideration by the Academy’s Admissions Committee.
To be eligible for admission to the AAHW Master’s degree programs in acupuncture, applicants must have completed at least two academic years (60-semester credits or 90 quarter credits) of education at the baccalaureate level that is appropriate preparation for graduate-level work, or the equivalent from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The 60 semester or 90 quarter credits requirement includes completion of 20-semester credits or 30 quarter credits in general education courses with a minimum grade of “C.” These general education courses need to be in the following five categories: humanities, communications, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences.
A maximum of 30-semester credits or 45 quarter credits (or 50% of the 60 semester hours / 90 quarter hours prerequisite education requirement) may be earned through the following assessment techniques: the College Scholarship Services Advanced Placement examinations, the College Scholarship Service’ College Level Examination Program (CLEP) examinations, the American College Testing Proficiency Examination Program (PEP), the U.S. Armed Forces Institute and the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support tests. Equivalency credit for corporate and military training may be assigned according to the recommendations established by the American Council on Education in the National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs and the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Forces.
